A 36-year-old woman employed by the Palm Beach County School District was arrested Tuesday for allegedly failing to return two rented vehicles, one of which she said she used to drive to a school-related conference in Orlando.
Magda Dominique, of suburban Lake Worth, who works as an ESOL coordinator at Conniston Middle School in West Palm Beach, faces two counts of fraud.
Palm Beach County Circuit Court Judge James Martz ordered she be released after she posts a $3,000 bond or she can be released under supervision.
The first case of alleged fraud dates back to 2011 when Dominique allegedly rented a 2011 gray Dodge Durango from the Budget Rent A Car on Belvedere Road. Dominique rented the vehicle Aug. 6, 2011 and was scheduled to return it on Aug. 8.
The company sent her a certified letter of demand that the vehicle be delivered after it wasn’t returned by the specified time. The company spoke with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office in September, according to a probable-cause affidavit.
A warrant was issued for Dominique’s arrest since she was listed on the contract form as the driver.
The second case dates back to January when Dominique rented a 2013 Nissan from the Dollar/Thrifty Automotive Group on Turnage Boulevard. She was supposed to return the vehicle by Feb. 10.
Dominique told the company that she didn’t know where the vehicle was and that she rented the vehicle for Jean LaPierre. She said he might have the vehicle.
Deputies in March then learned that Dominique was employed with the school district and arranged to meet with her at Conniston Middle School on April 2.
While at the school, Dominique told deputies that her husband reserved the car and she picked it up to drive to Orlando for a two-day conference. She said she returned the vehicle but did not give the keys to the attendant.
