Roosevelt Geffrard Jr charged with making death threats, sending threatening texts

By Julius Whigham II

Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

A 23-year-old Lake Worth man who allegedly made death threats and sent threatening text messages to his girlfriend’s sister was arrested Tuesday, authorities said.

Roosevelt Geffrard Jr. is facing a charge of making written threats to kill. He remained in custody late Wednesday at the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.

Geffrard’s arrest stems from an alleged incident in late June at a Lake Worth apartment. The alleged victim told Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies that she had been arguing with her sister over some money that was owed. The 19-year-old woman’s sister allegedly threw a metal napkin holder during the argument.

The teen was not hit, but her father suggested she go outside, the arrest report said. She did so and came face to face with Geffrard.

She questioned him about threatening text messages he allegedly sent earlier in the day. Geffrard then threatened to hit her, the arrest report said.

Geffrard and his girlfriend left, but he allegedly sent more threatening messages.

“(You) and (your) people gonna get killed. That is a threat. Keep playing,” he allegedly wrote to the 19-year-old woman.

When the woman responded that she would call police, Geffrard told her he did not care, the arrest report said.

She alleged that he also sent threatening messages to her mother and to her boyfriend.

The woman told deputies that she feared for her safety because Geffrard is a security guard and carries guns. The arrest report lists Geffrard’s occupation as security guard but does not indicate where he is employed. He has previously been arrested on allegations of battery and aggravated battery, jail records show.

According to the arrest report, Geffrard is connected to deceased Top 6 gang member Eguel Geffrard.

His cellphone number was registered in Eguel Geffrard’s name, deputies said. Eguel Geffrard was shot and killed in August 2011 before he could testify in a racketeering trial. The arrest report does not specify the relationship between Roosevelt and Eguel Geffrard.
