Obama to mark 5-year anniversary of U.S. financial crisis
QuestCinq.com (Reuters) – President Barack Obama will mark the five-year anniversary of the U.S. financial crisis on Monday in an effort to move back to his domestic agenda after weeks of dealing with Syria. When Wall Street came to a near collapse in 2008, the resulting economic crisis helped propel then-Democratic presidential nominee Obama to the White House. But the economy’s slow recovery from the recession has been a difficult challenge for Obama, who in recent weeks has been focused largely on foreign policy in trying to mount an international response to a chemical weapons attack in Syria. A White…

Japan launches ‘affordable’ Epsilon space rocket
QuestCinq.com Japan has launched the first in a new generation of space rockets, hoping the design will make missions more affordable. The Epsilon rocket is about half the size of Japan’s previous generation of space vehicles, and uses artificial intelligence to perform safety checks. Japan’s space agency Jaxa says the Epsilon cost $37m (£23m) to develop, half the cost of its predecessor. Epsilon launched from south-western Japan in the early afternoon. Crowds of Japanese gathered to watch the launch, which was also broadcast on the internet. It was carrying a telescope that is being billed by Jaxa as the world’s…

The U.S. official said the two sides were “coming to agreement” on the size of Syria’s chemical weapons stockpiles and talks were continuing into Saturday. U.S. President Barack Obama, after a meeting in Washington with Kuwait’s emir, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber…
U.S. officials: Use of force not expected in U.N. resolution on Syria
The United States does not expect a U.N. Security Council resolution on Syria’s chemical weapons to include a potential use of military force due to Russian opposition, senior Obama administration officials said on Friday. Their comments suggested Washington will not insist on including the use of force in the U.N. resolution. The officials, who briefed a group of reporters on condition of anonymity, said the United States would instead insist that the resolution include a range of consequences should Syria refuse to give up chemical weapons in a verifiable way. Those consequences could include sanctions, one official said. Independently of…
