Innocent man: How inmate Michael Morton lost 25 years of his life
CNN– Imagine being out to dinner with the love of your life and your beautiful, smiling, 3-year-old child. It’s a double celebration: your birthday and the end of your young boy’s difficult recovery from surgery for a heart defect… “Innocent people think that if you just tell the truth then you’ve got nothing to fear from the police,” Morton says now. “If you just stick to it that the system will work, it’ll all come to light, everything will be fine.” Morton spent nearly 25 years in prison. Morton was freed in October 2011. He was 57 years old. “I thank…
France’s Hollande reveals he had prostate treatment
French President Francois Hollande has revealed he had treatment for a benign enlargement of the prostate, just over a year before he was elected. Mr Hollande, 59, spent several days in hospital in February 2011, after which no further medical treatment was deemed necessary, a communique said. Benign prostatic enlargement is a common condition in older men. The state of health of French leaders is closely watched after past leaders hid grave illnesses while in office. Georges Pompidou died in 1974 while still in office, after concealing the fact he was suffering from cancer. Francois Mitterrand hid his prostate cancer…

Hezbollah commander ‘assassinated’ outside Beirut home
BEIRUT (AP) — Gunmen shot dead a senior Hezbollah commander outside his home Wednesday in southern Beirut, an attack that the Iranian-backed group quickly blamed on arch-enemy Israel. Israeli officials denied any involvement. Hezbollah ceremoniously announced the death of Hassan al-Laqis and described him as one of the founding members of the group, suggesting he was a high-level commander close to the Shiite party’s leadership. An official close to Hezbollah said al-Laqis held some of the group’s most sensitive portfolios and was close to the group’s leader, Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah. His shooting death comes as Lebanon faces increasing sectarian violence…
