Authorities: Suspected smuggler, 11 illegal immigrants in custody after landing in Palm Beach

A suspected smuggling boat sits on the beach in Palm Beach Tuesday morning. The boat was spotted at 7:05 am.

PALM BEACH —

The Palm Beach Post has reported:

One suspected Bahamian smuggler and 11 people believed to be illegal immigrants are in custody after authorities say they landed a boat on a northern stretch of beach on Palm Beach, U.S. Border Patrol officials report.

Those in custody are from China, the Dominican Republic and Haiti, said Special Agent in charge Frank Miller. They will be taken to the U.S. Border Patrol offices in Riviera Beach.

Original post: Nine people suspected to be illegal immigrants are in custody after coming ashore on the north end of Palm Beach in the last hour, police spokesman Fred Hess said.

A passerby alerted authorities to a boat ashore in the 400 block of North County Road at 7:05 a.m., Hess said. Officers searching the area have found nine people and continue their search with the help of a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s helicopter. No one is reported injured.
