Man accused of hacking girlfriend to death with machete

A man in custody for allegedly hacking to death his girlfriend with a machete on Monday has a long history of violence against the woman, according to court records obtained by The Palm Beach Post.

Horacia Simeus, 27, was attacked Monday while she was on the phone with a state victim’s advocate.

On Monday morning, a judge denied bond for Youvens Madeus, who is accused of the murder that took place in suburban West Palm Beach.

Madeus, 24, faces charges of first degree murder and is being held at the Palm Beach County Jail.

Simeus was on the phone with the state attorney’s victim advocate about a restraining order she had against Madeus when the attack happened, according to the arrest report. The victim’s advocate could hear yelling from a male later identified as Madeus and then the phone hung up.

Minutes later, Madeus called the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office’s to say his girlfriend wasn’t breathing.

When officers arrived, Madeus had a blood-soaked shirt draped over his shoulder and blood on his body.

Madeus told officers he went to give Simeus a hug and “seduce her for intimate relations,” according to the report. When she refused, he took a machete that was next to their bed and struck her in the neck, causing her to bleed profusely.

“I believed the victim and I were emotionally connected; therefore, killing her would ultimately kill me and allow me to live a new life in clarity,” he told officers.

Deputies attempted to use CPR on Simeus until medics arrived, according to the arrest report. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Simeus and Madeus have a long history of domestic violence going back to at least 2009.

In 2009, he slashed the tires of her Toyota Camry, but she told officers she didn’t want to press charges, according to the arrest report.

In 2011, he kicked in the backdoor of their home demanding a cellphone charger, according to the arrest report. The couple began to struggle and then he grabbed a knife from the kitchen. Simeus was able to flee to the neighbor’s home.

In 2013, Madeus was arrested when he was swinging a baseball bat and breaking things in the couple’s home, according to the report.
