A dishwater at a senior assisted living facility in Greenacres was arrested after he allegedly stole credit cards and jewelry from the home’s residents, according to a police report.
Greenacres Police were first notified of the thefts in November when two residents of the Arbor Oaks at Greenacres facility located on 3400 S. Jog Road reported fraudulent charges on their credit cards.
A 91-year-old woman told police that she had a credit card taken from her purse twice, the report said. A total of $2,015.18 of fraudulent charges were made to her account from April 24, 2013 until May 4, 2013.
On April 28, police were again called to the living facility after more residents reported being victims of credit card theft and fraud. Residents told police that jewelry was also stolen, the report said.
During the course of the police investigation, Arbor Oaks employee Jude Atice was arrested. During a background check, a detective noticed that items pawned by Atice were identical to ones purchased with the stolen credit cards, the report said.
Atice admitted to police that he used the stolen credit cards and asked that they apologize to the 91-year-old victim on his behalf, the report said.
Among his duties at the facility, Atice delivered food to residents’ rooms and removed trays once they were done, the report notes.
Atice, of West Palm Beach, was arrested Friday and is facing a charge of larceny between $300 and $10,000 from a victim 65 or older. He was released from the Palm Beach County Jail after posting a $3,000 bond.
Court records show that Atice, 30, was also arrested May 15 on charges that included exploitation of the elderly, larceny from a person 65 and older and burglary and is scheduled to go on trial Nov. 6.
