Dems to Clinton: Ignore Trump on past scandals

The Hill

Democrats are offering a piece of straightforward advice for Hillary Clinton as Donald Trumpthreatens to dig up scandals from the 1990s: Ignore him. Clinton’s supporters shrug off concerns that the Trump attacks could stick. They say most voters will see Trump as dredging up rumors as part of an anything-goes strategy to win the White House. And they think it will backfire on the presumptive GOP nominee, especially if Clinton responds with arguments about how she wants to solve the nation’s problems. “You hear one presidential candidate talking about something 30 years ago, blaming her for his actions and blaming…

Brazil’s ousted House speaker flexes muscle, faces ethics panel

Brazil’s suspended House speaker, Eduardo Cunha, defended himself before an ethics committee on Thursday, a day after the appointment of his ally as leader of the government coalition in the chamber showed the veteran lawmaker’s enduring political sway. The Supreme Court indefinitely suspended Eduardo Cunha this month on charges of obstructing a corruption investigation, just weeks after he orchestrated the approval of impeachment proceedings against President Dilma Rousseff in the lower house. The Senate voted last week to suspend Rousseff and put her on trial for breaking budget rules. Yet Cunha’s continued support from an array of minor parties and…

Russia to lend Egypt $25 billion to build nuclear power plant

Russia will loan Egypt $25 billion to finance building and operating a nuclear power plant in Egypt, the official gazette said on Thursday. Egypt and Russia signed an agreement on Nov. 19 for Russia to build Egypt’s first nuclear power plant in Egypt and to extend Egypt a loan to cover the cost of construction. It was not clear at the time what the deal was worth, but Egypt’s president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said the loan would be paid off over 35 years. Egypt will pay an interest rate of 3 percent annually, according to the country’s official gazette. Installment…

London keeps world on a short leash

Pravda

The British PM David Cameron called Nigeria and Afghanistan to be “fantastically corrupt countries”. Representatives of Nigeria and Afghanistan held it offensive. They believe they have done a lot to put an end to corruption in their countries. President of Nigeria said he wouldn’t demand apologies and claimed that London would rather help to return what had been stolen by local officials. Yuriy Solozobov, Director of international projects at the National Strategy Institute of Russia, commented Pravda.Ru on the issue. “Money, which was moved out of the country, goes to the Western financial centres. The main financial centre is situated…

Désaccord entre la Police et le RNDDH

PNH

Saudi officials were ‘supporting’ 9/11 hijackers, commission member says

The Guardian

In their joint statement last month, the chairman and vice-chairman of the commission suggested they agreed that there might be danger in releasing the full 28 pages of the congressional report. Photograph: Spencer Platt/Getty Images A former Republican member of the 9/11 commission, breaking dramatically with the commission’s leaders, said Wednesday he believes there was clear evidence that Saudi government employees were part of a support network for the 9/11 hijackers and that the Obama administration should move quickly to declassify a long-secret congressional report on Saudi ties to the 2001 terrorist attack. The comments by John F Lehman, an…

NEW DELHI (Thomson Reuters Foundation) – India’s top court on Wednesday slammed authorities for delays in responding to the worst drought in decades, saying that some states had taken an “ostrich-like attitude” towards the calamity, and called on the government to set up a drought fund. More than 330 million people – almost a quarter of India’s population – have been hit by water shortages across 13 of the country’s 29 states, including Haryana, Bihar, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka. A petition filed by Swaraj Abhiyan, a Delhi-based non-profit group, said that India’s current method of declaring drought…
