PBSO: Boca teens arrested for lifting luxury cars for joyrides

The Palm Beach Post

Three teens who have a pattern of lifting luxury cars from Boca Raton and Delray Beach for joyrides were busted early Friday doing doughnuts in a west Delray Beach park, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office reports.

After stealing and returning a Boca Raton woman’s Bentley in mid-April, detectives realized one of the boys connected his iPod to the Bentley’s bluetooth – revealing his name, the arrest report says.

That’s how they connected the teen, Benjamin David Goldberg, 18, of Boca Raton, to the auto theft after they caught him and two other juveniles driving a stolen Infinity west of Delray.

Goldberg was released from the Palm Beach County Jail late Friday on $18,000 bail.

Goldberg faces four counts of grand theft auto and two counts of auto burglary. The two juveniles face similar charges.

The sheriff’s office responded to West Delray Regional Park, on Atlantic Avenue west of State Road 7, early Friday after reports of a car driving recklessly in a corner of the park.

Goldberg was in the driver’s seat of the Infinity, with the two minors as passengers, deputies say.

Deputies found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the Infinity, which was reported stolen Friday from a Boca Raton home, the report says. Concealed beneath Goldberg’s leg was a folding blade knife.

In the Infinity, deputies found a Florida driver’s license and key belonging to the woman who owns the Bentley stolen and returned in mid-April. Whoever stole the car attempted to pair the iPod under the name “Ben’s iPod,” the sheriff’s office says.

When detectives interviewed Goldberg and the two teens, they admitted to stealing the Bentley, the Infinity and a Jaguar lifted from Delray Beach in late April. The boys then requested their attorneys, the report says.
